Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 16.04 is 16.04.3. Please try installing from that
version of the installat
Workaround was easy: in the live session the installer started for my
convenience after the fault, I ran fdisk on each of the two disks to
create a new gpt partition table, then reran the live installer. Worked
great this time.
So:
start terminal
lsblk
fdisk /dev/sda
g
w
fdisk /dev/nvme
