It's been happening for a looong loong time.
Any fix yet? Im surprised this is not solved. This bug have other
variants like, in a Compaq C730LA you close and open the lid, and the
screen returns but REally messed UP.
Only way to fix it is hiting ctrl+alt+f6 and ctrl+alt+f7 back.

I can confirm that I am having the same issue on my HP DV9410us, which
has an Nvidia 6150go video chip...
The problem does not exist on the "nv" driver, however the restricted
driver as well as the beta drivers have the same problem... This does

This has been confirmed in a thread on the ubuntu forums by several
individuals. It affects the system anytime x is running and the nvidia
restricted drivers are being used, including shutdown.
