Can you enable -proposed, upgrade all packages and see if the problem
still exists?
The log in -42 doesn't show anything meaningful. So the error happens
after the graphical session starts.

Yes, I can get to a login terminal on run level 3. I can run dmesg, but
how do I save the output in order to post it here after rebooting with
~39?

This problem is also present in kernel version 4.15.0-42
I'm relatively new to linux so I'm not sure how important it is to be on
the latest kernel, but I can't go past version -38.
Please help.

Hi,
I have a XPS 9570 on Mint 19 all work.
After an installation you must to force the reboot (it is a bug of the
installer) with the on/off switch.
After reboot you must to install first the Nvidia grapghics drivers (or
you optain a crash at reboot).
After this all is perfect.

I'm sorry I can't, I require virtualbox almost constantly, and also use
nvidia drivers... and according to the instructions provided, I'll need
to uninstall both.
This is my main work machine, can't really play around with things on
it.
I've removed the -39 kernel for now.
