I would agree that it appears to be a bug in the alternative cd.
I'm trying to install using gutsy 7.10 alternative cd 64bit, and it
doesn't detect the card, whilst the live cd has no problem in doing so.
(I want to use the alternative cd to allow me to setup raid during the
install).

Really is a distribution bug, not a kernel bug.
If installation comes from live Cd everything is ok.
The problem arise only if alternate cd (32&64bit) is used.
I was forced to use the live cd and everything gone right.

Not a kernel problem, thus invalidating this bug.
FYI the P5KC mobo has a silly problem; if you connect anything in the
USB910 connector (even the case front USB with no usb devices in it),
both the IDE controller and the Attansic controller do not initialize.
FYI:

I tried the propietary atheros "L1 Gigabit ethernet" driver found here:
http://www.hogchain.net/attansic/attansic.html
and still no joy. Other people seems to be running into the same issue.
