Thanks for following up. You should have seen a warning message but it
is really confusing and continuing as described in the forum thread
leads to an installation failure of grub. This is reported in bug

Starting point :
Only Ubuntu 16.04 lts 32 bits installed on system, all updates done the
day before.
PC : 500 GB HDD, 8 GB RAM, Intel® Core™ i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz × 4
Partioning : Standard partition as per last install

Could you please provide more details about your system setup, disks
layout and partitioning scheme and how you partitioned your disk with
Ubiquity?
