Well, this is odd, the problem seems fixed.
This machine dual boots and the issue was on xubuntu 18.04 which is not my
daily driver (yet). When I re-booted today (first time since my last bug
reply), it has loaded the NVIDIA binary driver without comment and all
seems well.

are building fine, the issue happens after the build - which is
different for the issue I've seen in my system (caused by failure in the
