MF, this issue about integration with Gnome Shell notification
subsystem.
Badge count on dock icon is another (much painful) subject (eg bug
#1756837).

I also experience issue 2. (on bionic) of this bug: even though messages
are read and correctly marked as read in Thunderbird window, the red
notification on Thunderbird dock icon is not updated.

Hello Eugene,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report some time ago and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If
I was able to reproduce both of these bugs on Bionic Daily.
1. I received 2 emails simultaneously but only received one notification
on my lock screen. This is expected as Thunderbird only has one
notification which states you have 2 emails so the lock screen is right.
2. I read these emails on a
