Work to package Zotero in Debian appears stalled. However, there is a
flatpak available on flathub.org which is kept up to date and works
well.

I liked to raise this issure again. Zotero is the only comprehensive
open source citation manager and it should be available directly.
Furthermore it is a standalone software, but I am note sure how much of
the code is based on Firefox.
These is a well supported PPA for Zotero on Github, too.

Thank you for the information. It does sound like once version > 5.0 is
packaged in Debian, the problem will be resolved. Hopefully at that time
it can be synced to Ubuntu.
