At this time I used the intel driver. Currently I'm using FBDev.
After changing to the default ubuntu splash the problem disappeared.
Only when using a customized usplash theme I don't have any visible
fonts in xorg.
As it is a long time ago I don't know, if the problem still persists. I
think I

What video driver are you using? I strongly suspect that it's a bug in
that which is triggered by usplash, rather than being a usplash bug.

I made some more testing. It seems that there is something wrong with
usplash which results in fonts not being displayed in X.
I started my Ubuntu notebook into recovery mode and from there I changed
the runlevel. After doing this I was able to work as usual.
So I created a new entry in menu.lst
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
