"Won't Fix" unfortunately.
Not because 17.10 is past EOL, but because the decision was taken to use
a gradient as the background starting in 18.10. This at least means this
bug title is now out of date.

Although to avoid too much debate on personal design preferences I've
assigned it to ubuntu-ux (Canonical design team). Hopefully they will
have some time this cycle to assess the current theme.

Bugs,
The noise was kept there on purpose. Indeed we tried the aubergine
background without it, and it looked really garlish, this is the reason
why we decided to keep it. However, we will probably iterate over the
design in the coming cycle.
