In this case, the WebKitGTK library has updated and introduced a regression.
The fix is a workaround to remove the threading from the application, which was
causing a segfault.

Unfortunately, this is likely to be an issue with the WebKit2GTK
library. It wouldn't be the first time a segmentation fault happens and
causes a white screen. Strangely, the problem goes away when the system
gets updated.

Martin, it loads successfully until the main menu:

@lah7 on a fresh install of a fully updated Ubuntu MATE 17.10 daily
image I see that Welcome is "freezing" when loading via the auto start.
However, if launched from a terminal it works reliably. Can you have a
poke about please :-)
