I'm using the big mouse pointer because the normal one gets lost on my
40" 4K-display. Taking this into account, the group of affected users
will grow by time as those displays are getting cheaper and more
popular.
The big mouse pointer doesn't even survive Suspend-to-RAM.

I should add that during the boot up sequence I observe the following:-
Before login, cursor is normal size.
After login, by moving mouse pointer I notice it change to the large size and
then just before the unity bar appears it quickly changes to normal size again,
