Thanks a lot for this relevant information. Since this bug won't be
fixed in ubuntu ( because ubuntu doesn't activate USB in /etc/fstab for
security reasons ), I set the status to invalid. This bug is known by
VirtualBox and will be fixed upstream, it's in the official VirtualBox

I managed to get my external hard drive to work in virtualbox by doing the
following
In terminal issue the following command:
sudo gedit /etc/fstab
-In this file paste the following lines, and change the group ID
according to the group ID that is shown for the group "usbfs".

MY wireless mouse and keyboard freeze as soon as I enable usb in
virtualbox. Mine is a 32-bit AMD athalon machiine. I did enable the
"magic" with gedit---..

Most probably that virtualbox can't have a direct access to your ipod
because ubuntu already communicate with these devices. I change the
package name to virtualbox.
