Bernd Porr, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to
4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this

Not that I'm aware of. I had 32bit and 64bit versions running and it was
fine. Though I did most development under 32bit prior to 16.04 but some
also under 64bit.

Bernd Porr, to clarify, was this problem reproducible in a x64 (not
32-bit) Ubuntu release prior to 16.04?

Just tested with 4.8-rc4: no ethernet, no bluetooth at all and graphics
defaults to VGA only.
Booted back to the stock ubuntu xenial kernel and bluetooth/network is back up
running.
Looks to me like a massive regression.
All tested on an X220 laptop.

Bernd Porr, to keep this relevant to upstream, one would want to test
the latest mainline kernel (now 4.8-rc4) as it is released.
Could you please advise?

I've checked out the kernel from git and it's exactly the same issue:

I confirm the issue with the Broadcom 20702A0 bluetooth 4 dongle,
exactly as described. Also tested with earlier kernels on Debian and
Ubuntu systems. No possibility of reliable usage over bluetooth.
I would greatly appreciate this bug being given attention. We have a

Similar problem: here at low bitrates a bit more stable but loses connection
after a while plus data corruption but no fatal crash.
Tested with kernel version: 4.5.4-1 and 4.6.0-1 both 64 bit.
