In my case the crashing panels and the crashing evolution were both caused by a single missing file. /usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab Once I reinstalled the tzdata package, all problems resolved. Apparently, if that file is missing, anything that uses the calendar will crash. -- evolution segfault

I am having the same problem suddenly in 8.04. Attempting to click on the calendars or memos or tasks buttons results in an immediate crash of evolution. Also clicking the date in the top panel causes the panel to crash and reappear. Running evolution from terminal shows the following error:
