After installing the newer Utopic stack and watching some videos in full
screen, the issue hasn't repeated. I believe it's been fixed.
The live disk I used was created a long time ago (hence the 14.05.1
version) which is the reason why newer updates hadn't been installed.

stack you are using is EOL as of August 2016.
If you update to the supported Xenial stack is this still reproducible?
