Have you checked to see if your router has any strict security settings,
namely Mac Address Filtering enabled?

I think that firefox is ok,
if possible, check your lan.
maybe Ubuntu didn't recognized your DNS Server,
try use your ubuntu 6.10 or kiwi 7.08 to copy the /etc/resolv.conf to your
current ubuntu version
