I have the same "ring 1-8 test failed" error messages on my new HP 17-y011nc
notebook.
I am not sure about when it started appearing but the first time I have noticed
it was after switching from Linux kernel 4.4.0 to 4.4.8.
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS fresh installation (since Friday - 3 days ol
m3asmi, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu by
ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information running the following
from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg
