You are mixing up different things. My "political" decision was to
not bring up any time to implement PSK
Andrian, the fact that libreswan is not available as a plugin to
NetworkManager has nothing to do with any kind of decision. It simply
wasn't done because nobody took the time to package it and make it
available. It *IS* the preferred option for newer NetworkManager
versions, but a lot of things ar

That's definitely not true. IKEv1 and PSKs (of arbitrary length) are
supported by the command line version of strongSwan.

Hi all. I've played around with Ryan's PPA to get the strongswan
connection to my work place working under Mint 18 (xenial). Here are my
observations based on a fresh Mint 18 install, after doing all updates
and upgrades that were available.

Strongswan have a nm-1.2 branch ; unclear whether it's considered
"finished".

This branch is based on Strongswan 5.5 whereas the version in the Xenial
repo is 5.3 - does this pose a problem for Debian version discipline?

For those trying to make IKEv2 connections... the ShrewSoft VPN GUI and
tools work.
sudo apt-get install ike-qtgui
It would be very much preferable to have something integrated with NM
working properly though. Having your VPN drop because you closed the
wrong window is... frustrating.

I have also been unable to find a solution to this 2 month old problem
and it's very discouraging since it worked without problem in the 15.10.
