In my laptop (DELL Latitude X200) I found that the pointer disappears ONLY when
I change the brightness of the screen with the combination of keys: Fn+up
Fn+down.

i have the same problem on my Asus x50m. The pointer disappears after
KDE restart (ctrl+alt+backspace), after logout and then login, but not
every restart or logout/login - it disappears randomly.
