I've seen a variation of this for nearly a year and it's been bugging me

about 50% of the time when I copy/move a file nautilus will segfault
it seems related to the generation of icons

Command line works fine. I had this issue "only" yesterday and today but can't
actually reproduce it more.
I will try to move files from times to times and if I trigger the bug will post
the syslog.

you should report a separate issue about the unity lock/segfault issue,
also copying thousand of images work fine usually, unsure what is
specific with your system that creates the issue ... does it work better
if you copy from a command line or other software?.

I must add that I move the files from and to the same disk, so files are
not physically moved, only their indexes.
