Please try the attached patch. It makes it so that if the device does
not support ECRC generation or checking, we don't enable those features.
Currently (without this patch), we *do* enable ECRC generation and
checking if _HPX allows, i.e., if the platform can support ECRC.

Thanks for testing, John. To narrow it down further, can you test some
of the 3.18 release candidates?
They can all be downloaded from:

I'd suggest trying -rc1 first. If that version does not have the bug,
try some of the newer candidates:

Here are the results from upgrading the mainline kernel.
Started at 14.04.4 and upgraded to kernel 4.6 - Error is still
occurring.
Started at 14.04.2 and upgraded to kernel 3.17 - Still working as expected
Upgraded from kernel 3.17 to 3.18 - Error starts to appear.

I've just completed the test with 14.04.2 and 14.04.3. It appears to be
correct in 14.04.2 (00a0) but broken in 14.04.3 (01e0). I'm attaching
the apport logs from both tests. 3.16.0-30 corresponds to 14.04.2 and
3.19.0-25 corresponds to 14.04.3.

I just finished testing with 14.04.1 and the value is correct. The
value returned is ":80:02.0 @160 = 00a0". I'm going to try with
14.04.2 and 14.04.3 as well to see where the change occurs. I've also

Attached are the requested logs from the system with the current issue.
I was not able to run apport due to our proxy.
The card in question is current at PCI Root Path 80:02.0 (Intel Quick
Assist 8950).
When running the command "setpci -s 80:02.0 160.w", the value returned

Do we know if this is a regression? It could be since RHEL 7.2 does not
have the bug. Does this issue happen in 14.04.3 or 14.04.2? If it is a
regression, we can go the kernel bisect route and try to find the commit
that introduced this.
