As of May, 1st, 2017 this bug still persists and affects the two
machines in my network. If I can supply further information, please tell
me which information you require. I suggest changing the status back to
"incomplete".
Nevertheless, thanks for all the great work you put into (K)ubuntu!

My simple workaround which forces discover to work as expected:
sudo apt-get install cron-apt
sudo rm /etc/cron-apt/action.d/3-download
sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/cron-apt /etc/cron.daily/cron-apt
It installs cron-apt package, removes default action: download of
packages for upgrade and starts "apt-get
Kubuntu 16.04 plasma-discover Version 5.6.2 doesn't work - program and widget
still shows that Software is actual. Verified on two computers.
Running shell command "sudo apt update" makes program and widget work.
I think you know the solution, because plasma-discover on Kubuntu 17.04 works
fine.

Hi guys,
I'm using Kubuntu 16.10, have Discover version 5.7.5, but my automatic
update notifications are not working. I never receive updates. I have to
do that through Discover by searching for updates or through console. I
never get notified on updates...

I have 16.04 with plasma-discover 5.6.2-1ubuntu1 package but I still do
not get notifications.

drives the updates in kubuntu
