gnome-panel switches to "no workspace" with no way to get b
I have this problem too. With Compiz disabled, switching workspaces by
clicking on the workspace switcher works fine.
If Compiz is enabled, then using the workspace switcher causes the
gnome-panel & all running apps to "disappear". Running killall "gnome-
panel" brings everything back except FireF
