in Gutsy, compiz worked fine. But when I upgraded to Hardy it stopped working
and I get this message:
"Desktop effects could not be enabled"

Ah. Your card is blacklisted from running Compiz due to problems with
video support under Compiz. As such, your inability to enable desktop
effects is intended.
If you wish to use Compiz/desktop effects anyway, you can override this
blacklist by adding "SKIP_CHECK=yes" to ~/.config/compiz/compi
