can't reproduce either on intrepid, and quite difficult in hardy too.
Probably something in gtk+2.0 though and not X. Closing as fixed.

I am on Ubuntu 8.10 and cant face this problem. As soon as I right
click, menu pops up. Left click goes away with the menu. To me it looks
like more of Xorg issue related to Xserver.

I believe I have the same problem. If I right click anywhere on the
desktop, or even in a Nautilus window, the menu pops up. But then if I
left click anywhere to get rid of the menu, it doesn't go away. Instead
it requires two left clicks to get it to disappear. It doesn't happen
all of the time. P
