Well, I try to avoid the proprietary drivers, but the few times I have
booted 8.10 with the new fglrx driver, I did not see the problem any
more. So +1 from me, that this is solved in Intrepid.

RC1 of 8.10 does seem to be functioning properly on the 3 systems i
previously mentioned (Kernel Version 2.6.27-7)
To Test this i consecutively log out in and out for 10 minutes strait on
all 3 systems rebooted 10 times on each and left each system logged in
for 15 minutes un-touched went over log

I downloaded the Alpha for 8.10 today and have installed it on a dell Optiplex
755, GX620, and 745 Fine. I will stress test it when back in the Office on
Monday and report back with how the new version fair with my hardware.

I have also suffered this twice or thrice over the last weeks. I am
banging myself on the head for not having noticed this early, but this
was probably caused because I've been testing gutsy with oh so many
drivers (8.34, 8.36, 8.40, ati 6.7.19*...). In any case, I'm the owner
of a Mobility Radeon
