I'm having the same problem, also using the r128 module. Changing to ati would
not help Craig, because it just detects your card and loads r128 oder radeon ;)

Just tried it with the ati driver instead of r128, and the problem
hasn't gone away. However, the cursor is not going black anymore, but
just staying in 1-bit colour, which is still ugly, but more usable than
before.
