I'm pretty sure that after I updated this laptop to Breezy and then
Dapper there was no problem. The machine is no longer in use; Dapper was
the last OS I tried on it.

It would be great if you could update this bug for Dapper or Edgy.
Sounds like it worked with Breezy, but it would be nice to confirm that
the new kernel fixed the issue.
