It is carried over for Hardy. The reason why it requires python2.4 also
is that it installs python version test scripts and without python2.4
the tests would fail.

Supporting is one thing, *requiring* both versions to be installed at
the same time seems overkill.
My gutsy doesn't yet have it's 3G internet driver installed. This
depends on python-tz, which is telling me I need to install python2.4,
it already has python2.5 installed. This seems really broken,
Dependencies need changing to python as a virtual package?

Why doesn't your Gutsy system have Python 2.4? By default it does. Modules
supporting both versions is generally correct.

It seems to depend on python2.4 *and* python2.5 which I suspect is the
problem. http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/python/python-tz
I can't get it to install on my gutsy system as it wants me to install
python 2.4,

I'm unable to replicate this on my Gutsy system. I tried downgrading
both python-tz and tzdata and just upgrading python-tz and just
downgrading and upgrading python-tz.
Do you have the full error message that was produced? The earliest
error in the message is likely to be the most interesting.
