By the way: I guess making a script that kills gnome-launch-box before
it launches it again would be a quick workaround.
#!/bin/bash
killall gnome-launch-box
gnome-launch-box -t
If you save this script as gnome-launch-box-startup.sh, you should be
able to bind a key to the script using gconf-edit
I've tried gnome-launch-box on both 7.10 and 8.04 (fully updated), and I
can confirm this bug.
First time I run it it runs fine, but the second time it always fails,
and I have to kill gnome-launch-box. The "dialog" opens up, but it
doesn't respond to keyboard input, like in the description above.

I'm getting the same problem here. Running 7.10, didn't notice this
issue happening when running 7.04 (but that may be a coincidence - I
installed gnome-launch-box only a few days before I upgraded).
It seems for me more like 1/3 of the time gnome-launch-box opens but
then doesn't get keyboard in
