Sorry the report was incomplete in that point.
I can't test the optical output due to lack of hardware. It doesn't seem to
work as the optical out should be in "visible" red when working - right?
My main concern is my microphone as I can't use skype or other communication
stuff and have to switch

When you say the sound output works fine does that include optical out?
That is my biggest need at the moment. Decommissioned the G30 as a work laptop
and is now becoming a media centre.

I am also having this issue in Jaunty Jackalope. What information do you
need to continue this? It is currently blocking my use of the S/PDIF
connector on my laptop (making the "media center" sound pretty horrid).
