This was fixed in gnome-calculator 3.18.3 which is available in Ubuntu
16.04 LTS.
I was unable to duplicate this bug in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

not only 1^(-0.5). Any x that i managed to try with x^(-0.5) gave
incorrect results. And not only ^(-0.5) but ^(-0.1), ^(-0.2) and many
many others.
