The drive reported a media error, but this does sometimes happen as the
result of a sudden loss of power in the middle of a write. These errors
can be corrected by writing to the drive ( just can't read the
incorrectly written part ). You might want to run badblocks -n on the
drive from a livecd
I am going to agree to disagree, as Wily proceeded to install on a
second try. SMART also shows nothing. Strikes me as a bit of a pat
answer, but I have gotten used to this sort of thing.

Also, IF the drive is bad, shouldn't there be some effort to better and
more descriptively error trap that sort of thing?
