I can confirm at least the second point of the original bug report
("cycle virtual desktops by using the mouse wheel on the switcher
applet") - the wheel apparently no longer has any effect on the desktop

Actually this is a problem with the workspace switcher applet but I've
left it filed against compiz so I remember to look at it.

There is another functional regression in Compiz:

In short: you cannot set name for workspaces, and you cannot display
these names in the Workspace Switcher applet in the Panel.
