I think it is rather related due to build errors once encountered by the
packager, not investigating the consequences of the changes: the
affected line reads:
# dh_installchangelogs ChangeLog
but there is no longer an upstream ChangeLog file in the orig.tar.gz
file. So you'll have to remove
Thanks; I'll try to remember to fix this the next time we update -intel.
Don't know why that'd be commented out (maybe someone tried trimming
space on the live cd??)

Yes, thats true. It seems like in the debian/rules file the
dh_installchangelogs command is commented out.
