This is probably a mesa bug, it doesn't really have anything to do with
compiz. In any case, on my system (i865), the current intrepid
xserver/mesa/intel-driver fix this issue.

I have a Lenovo T61 with Ubuntu Hardy Heron
It has the Intel GMA X3100 GM965
Attached is an image. Whenever I use the Negative filter the contents of the
window turns black.
I can confirm that this also occurred when my laptop was blacklisted for Compiz
via Ubuntu Gutsy (and I manually bypassed

Exact same problem here. According to reports on the compiz-fusion site,
negative should work with my hardware (The blacklisted Intel 965), but
simply doesn't.
