I think this is only a partial fix. If I set the "Mount automatically" option
for the drive, the drive will not automatically mount on login: the drive
will appear in the applet as unmounted. If I power down/unplug the drive
and then plug it back in, it will auto-mount.

Ok. I resolved changing X-KDE-Kded-phase in
/usr/share/services/kded/mediamanager.desktop
from
X-KDE-Kded-phase=1
to
X-KDE-Kded-phase=0
I hope it works for you. Please try, so we can close the bug.

Hi,
I've got the same problem. I'm able to see drives just after I put a Cd-rom, or
connect my Ipod or other removable media in my notebook.
I'm using kubuntu 7.10 - Gutsy stable.

Ok, now I'm puzzled. I have installed Gutsy on my new laptop and the
storage media kicker applet works fine on it. I still have problems on
my desktop computer though. The desktop is an amd64 x2 with nvidia
6100/nforce 4 chipset. The laptop is an amd64 Turion x2 with nvidia
6100go/nforce 4go chipse
Same thing here with Kubuntu Gutsy final x86.

If a disk or network share is unmounted or mounted the media icons will
also show up then.
