It happens to Mozilla Firefox as well.
Here's what I do:
While the window is in normal mode, press F11, wait 2-3 seconds, press F11
again.
Then press alt-F10 to maximize it.

I can get any window to wobble forever just by moving the top edge close
to top panel, and so that the right or left edge of the window is
outside the screen.
This is annoying as sometimes the window is also unresponsive. The state
clear, for example, by toggling the "show desktop" button.
