Bug was opened on 2007-09-29. I'm having the same or a similar problem:
recently I found out the internal microphone in my macBook was working
(yay!), but today or yesterday it stopped working correctly (yes, i
installed updates, that probably broke it). Now, whatever I record is
VERY noisy. Also
this is a change I did to the latest alsa (0.15rc3) sigmatel_patch, this
pin configuration fixes the mono output and the microphone (but the
recorded sound is very low, no boost ?), the master volume control is
still broken.
