I mainly experience this issue after waking up the system from stand by.
Usually it's a notification about "available updates", but it can be
others too.
The killall plasmashell command does help sometimes, but often it does
not and then I have no clue how to remove this annoying notification

This could be a total red herring, but I've been experiencing this
mostly after I have plugged an external monitor in to my laptop (in
side-by-side mode) and then removed that external monitor.

In my case it's "System update available" only. When it show up it
persist forever. Other notifications behave as expected.
