Ok, I am also seeing the same problem, with a TV-Scart cable, on a Radeon X300
in a Advent DHE-500 media centre PC. I worked around it last night by using a
modeline designed for adapters that couldn't do interlace:

Here's my xorg.conf. It contains two screens, the affected screen is
called "tv".
BTW, I don't *want* to use the tv-out because its quality is likely to be
inferior. Unless you want me to test it for you, which I can do.

You should try the tv-out, since it's supported now at least on some
radeons.. Also, could you attach your Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf, so we'd
see what mode it is trying to use.
