I acknowledge that this would be a very useful feature in sbackup. I
would also like to backup to a FAT32-formatted external drive, which
currently does not work.
It would be great if sbackup could decide automatically on the best way

Implemented and merged in NSsbackup devel branch .
Note: Split functionality will not be compatible with compression.
This functionality will certainly be used using the new implemented
Multi-profile functionality.

There was a blueprints in NSsbackup for this . This functionality requires
quite a work . It could be done with an acceptable difficulty if we didn't care
about retro-compatibility. see the blueprint here :
