Hi kirth-gersen,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with
the latest development release of Ubuntu?
I guess one possibility is to predict that conditions that cause the
driver to crash and bail out with a better error report before this
happens.

To have this bug be the master for several duplicate bugs and then mark
it invalid is not helpful. Xinerama should work just fine with Compiz
on a NVIDIA card, unless someone can update this bug with the definitive
URL that states anything different, preferably from the official NVIDIA
documentati
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but without xinerama you can't use two
different (resolution) monitors attached to two different nvidia cards.
Interestingly, the nVidia driver _can_ do GL across the two cards.

Twinview is no were near xinerama stuff.
For now I would settle for one monitor(the default one) working with compiz and
the other to be inert and dull (I am using xinerama monitor+oldTV, so I have no
need for compiz on my tv), but I guess it can't be done.

it's like xinerama, but not equivalent. You get some nice features such
as the ability to attach the second monitor and configure it without
restarting X or fiddling the xorg.
But, you get one big desktop, so your gnome panels extend across both
monitors, maximizing causes windows to fill both scr
Also, twinview is just nvidia's xinerama-like thing. It should work
pretty much the same way.

The segfault occurs inside the nvidia driver.

I'm sure I used Xinerama with compiz (or perhaps beryl) on this very
machine before (I've had two monitors for a while, and TwinView really
sucks for me).
Also, should compiz really segfault when encountering this
configuration?

You cannot use Xinerama with nvidia. They do not support it and it does
not work with compiz. Use twinview instead.
