maybe coz of a different version of driver..due to different kernel version
(or different controller itself.. 99.9 % not possible)
you can compare urs.. based on below commands..

my sound preferences are different from yours.
I don't have 'Master" in PlayBack section.
And when i test the "Sound Capture" on Syste->preferences->Sound i've got
the following error:
Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert !
audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profi
yes, the mic is finally working, although you need to select the front
mic for the rear mic in to work...

another thing I found out after trial n errors is.. recording works only
if digital and capture both are NOT muted...strange..

BTW for getting it work in skype I installed alsa oss emulation package...it is
not installed by default ...

And yes.. Sound out is low indeed compared to Windows. Almost 50% of
volume even though PCM and other are set to full.

I have the same problem.
My microphone works on windows, but doesn´t on linux.
My sound is ok on linux, only microphone has problems.
