Public bug reported:

gnome panel is missing after allowing update around 1am eastern time on
9-22-07, no response to alt-f2 either. Everything seems to work
otherwise. Taskbars, menu, etc. are missing from the desktop. I can't
tell if gnome-panel is running or not. Sorry, I usually review all of
the updates (for this very reason) but it was late and I just went
through with it, haven't had too many problems til this morning. It did
require a restart this time, new kernel headers? I can alt-click on
desktop and get context menu, my desktop icons are present and working
too. Items in the context menu and nautilus scripts run fine and the
message pop ups work too. Just missing the panels along with it's
contents. I tried choosing new session and failsafe gnome, still
nothing. I also performed several restarts including a couple of
complete cold boots.
