Still present in Hardy alpha 5.
Subwoofer is controlled by the PCM volume
The other speakers from the main volume.
The "solution is to put the Main volume to max, and use the volume buttons to
controll the PCM.
Not good enough, but a temporary workaround.

Has there not been any progress on this matter? I'm suffering from the
exact same problem. I'd supply the lspci - vnnn but I'm new to ubuntu
and have no idea how.
