I don't see why this is marked with importance "low". It's vital to be
able to change fonts if you have short sight. So for accessibility
reasons (a legal requirement in UK), this should be set to high.
I have the same problem after upgrading to 14.04. Had I known about it I
would not have upgrade

Will do, but it will have to wait until I get home from work. Gedit
preferences menu works fine on my machine at work so it must be
something weird I did at home.

Ok, that doesn't make much sense to me. Did you install special plugins?
You are the only one to have the issue so it's something special in your
installation, not sure what though... can you run "dpkg -l | grep gedit"
and copy the output there?
