my reading of the log is actually that the ppa package was bad, which is
why i marked it invalid. I'll follow your advice and mark it fix
released (as I really don't know that it was always like that)

With current Linux 3.18.x released versions all is OK. So I think it's
solved rather than Invalid.

Linux 3.18RC7. Now this problem still appears sometimes. Rebooting the
system usually helps. But on what it depends which causing virbr0
interface to disappear I don't know.

users if they boot with the stock 14.10 kernel (i.e. 3.16.0-23-generic
#31-Ubuntu) ? I want to verify that the issue is the kernel and not
another site-local customization.

Thanks for reporting this bug.
Could you show where you obtained the 3.18 kernel? This sounds like a
bug or missing feature in the kernel build, but if it's a custom build
then I don't want to mark this as affecting the kernel packages.
