I had the same problem with the r8169 network module for Realtek cards.
Adding it to the blacklist file alone didn't work. Plnt's suggestion of
also running "sudo update-initramfs -u" made it work.

same for me when I try to blacklist oss modules. Tried putting them
either in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-oss
with no result

It doesn't work for me. I added the sonypi module to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file and still it's loaded on boot.

After an update today (11.10.2007) blacklisting started to work. But
this time i made a file blacklist-usb and put in there blacklist
ehci_hcd. And suddenly it started to work. Now ehci isnt loaded at
startup.

I also try to blacklist the sonypi and sony_acpi modules adding them to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist file but they are loaded everytime I start my
system.
